I have loved moments like a gf helping me to pack up the house to move and stumbling onto an old journal, and feeling compelled to forget the packing and indulge in some light to moderate self-deprecation.
What interesting gauges of our growth in the relics of our former selves.
I had never really thought through, however, how much this former self was not using journaling as a tool for mental health or growth; she was writing as a commandment for posterity.
How different the pages of my journal may have looked if I had not been writing for someone else besides myself.
But, alas, that is who she was then, and the woman of today who recognizes that, has certainly grown indeed.
I explore this more in depth in a podcast episode which can be found here and played on a variety of platforms!
